Safe YOU Armenia

In March 2023, Mariam Torosyan (Founder & CEO of Safe YOU) was a member of the Republic of Armenia’s delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Assembly in New York.

The priority theme of CSW67 this year was "Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls".

During CSW67 Mariam participated in a range of events.

As part of the session, Mariam, with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN M. Mher Margaryan participated in the meeting around the theme: "Digital for Educated and Self-sufficient Girls and Women" organized by the United Nations International Organization of Francophonie.

Additionally, Mariam spoke at an event co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Finland to UN, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Liberia to the United Nations and UNFPA on addressing both the positive impact of mobile phones on gender equality, and the increased risks to sexual and gender-based violence in the digital space. Mariam talked about the importance of combating GBV through AI and innovation and introduced our Safe YOU app and its transformative impact. The meeting hosted a number of honorable officials and representatives from various civil society organizations such as ACT Alliance, Bread for the World and others. The Minister of Gender of the Republic of Liberia, Williametta Saydee-Tarr, was also invited to be a part of this productive discussion.

Safe YOU is beyond proud and grateful to be a part of such a significant event. We are confident that at a global level, innovation and technologies are one of the key means to achieve positive change and impact in the fight against GBV and foster gender equality.

Mariam was also a speaker at an event hosted by Women and Gender Equality Canada and Canadian Women's Foundation at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations. This event was cosponsored by the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN. While presenting the Safe YOU app and AI-based platform, Mariam spoke about the importance of addressing GBV through innovation and AI as well as the vision and impact that our solution has had on prevention, protection and prosecution of GBV cases. Safe YOU’s presentation followed an inspirational speech by Marci Ien, the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth Canada, who talked about the government’s participation in partnering and supporting feminist leaders.

We are pleased to be a part of these remarkable events and are full of confidence that by joining our forces through partnerships and innovation we will be able to accelerate the advancement of Gender Equality and prevent Gender-Based violence.
